Excellent tour. Highly recommend. It was definitely interesting to hear more about the Davis family. Before today, I knew nothing but the name of Jefferson Davis. The museum is located smack dab in the middle of a hospital complex, and parking can be a little tricky. Tours are limited to 18 people each. Definitely recommend booking in advance. We went on a Thursday at 10:30am and our tour had 10 people in it, so I could see later in the day and weekends booking up.
Very interesting home to a few people, one president and for a period, a public school. Our tour guide, Charlie, was exceptional and knew a great deal about Pres Davis and his family, etc. The only downside was parking, which is atrocious. Plan in 30 minutes prior to starting the tour just to find
A true piece of American history presented by a great tour guide (included in ticket price), highly recommended. Great for history buffs as well as design/decoration gourmands, beautiful interiors rich with historical details.
Roured the old Confeferate capital building and enjoyed the experance. They have some but not all of the original items. They have done a good job restoring the building. It first served as a privet house, then the Confedetate capital building ,after that Union headquarters for 5 years. It then became a school and finally a museum.
This is a beautiful building that is hidden right in the middle of VCU hospital. Google directions might confuse you trying to find it. The gift shop was closed. Tours are by appointment, so I was unable to go into the building.
Tour guide Andrea was knowledgeable with a friendly vibe. The house was beautiful. It gives a sweet glimpse into its time hosting the Davis family and also hints at its time before and after.
100% recommend. Our tour guides name is Charlie and I could of easily spent all day listening to all the knowledge that he has. Beyond incredible. We went for girl scouts and we had a large group. We were able to ask questions. Well worth the time and money.
Well worth the visit! As Civil War history buffs, we're always skeptical of anything owned and operated by a private group. This was a fantastic tour. The tour guide, Charlie, was extremely knowledgeable and did a fantastic job. You need to reserve your time slot online and purchase tickets in advance. It's an excellent tour. We were so impressed that we came back the next day with our family who were traveling with us. They do a fantastic job of presenting a fairly unbiased view of the Civil War and the history of the Confederate White House as well as its occupants. We'd go again!
